Presented in this book, to be used as encouragement for further study, is a list of the snakes of the area. In this work an attempt is made to list the snake fauna of the Orient as a whole (Pakistan, east to China, and south through Asia, to include Japan, the Philippine Islands, Indonesia, and Papua New Guinea). The list includes present-day names, original names and references, type locality, distribution, and any recent taxonomic references.
