The use of composite materials in high-technology applications has increased dramatically in the last twenty years and is projected to be on the verge of further growth. The U.S. Office of Technology
Assessment has reported that by the year 2000, 200 million pounds of these materials will be produced. Due to the newness of the subject, many of the engineers working in this field today have never received formal
training in advanced composite materials. Some technology definitions included are for general composite-related words and terms; composite acronyms; composite mold and tool design words and terms; and composite
military, government and industry materials characterization words and terms. This dictionary will help engineers in all fields to become more familiar with the vocabulary of advanced composites. |
