This book covers the mechanical behavior
of solids, both crystalline and polymeric, from the viewpoint of the behavior of atoms. It is specifically concerned with the role of temperature and its effects in terms of the thermal motion of atoms in a solid. It is unique in that it covers the important aspects of statistical mechanics which have a bearing on elasticity theory in particular. It is written from a point of view that is important to polymer scientists working on composite materials in addition to common material continuums.
